Chamomile

Chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla) is one the most widely used medicinal herbs in the world and has been well known and used for thousands of years because of its beneficial properties. It is a plant that grows wild in gardens and in open fields and is also cultivated in many countries of Europe.

In Hungary, Chamomile was first mentioned in 1578, in the Book of Herbarium, by Peter Meliusz Juhasz. Nowadays, it still grows in the wild, but is more widely cultivated throughout the country. Chamomile prefers, and does very well, in the saline soil that is typical of some regions of Hungary. Because of ideal conditions, Hungary produces chamomile flowers of a very high quality and has been exporting Chamomile to other countries for hundreds of years. Chamomile from the Great Plain of Hungary was designated a ”Hungaricum” – an official Hungarian value, in 2012.

Widely used in the cosmetics industry because of its powerful soothing, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and other beneficial properties, chamomile helps the skin fight against aging, redness, and acne. Chamomile extract is rich in polyphenol, and other bioactive compounds which can help counteract several markers of aging, and it has beneficial effects on skin elasticity and collagen synthesis. In addition to these, chamomile has several other benefits and uses in the cosmetics industry.
